Hunger or Thirst

Or is it something completely different?

We should eat when we are hungry.

Sometimes we eat because we are emotionally nibbling on something.
Sometimes we eat because we are actually thirsty.
Sometimes we grind our teeth as if we have to bite through the thing we chew on.
And sometimes we eat because we are hungry on another level that cannot be satisfied by food.

Sometimes we continue to eat even though we are bursting at the seams.
Sometimes we eat only to throw it all up.
Sometimes we eat because we’re addicted to the stuff.
And sometimes we drink or smoke instead of eating.

What can, what should a body in need of water, oxygen, nutrients, love, respect and care do with all these misunderstood and disturbed self-destruction programs?

Food is as fundamental as life itself.

To listen better and take better care of your body, please ask yourself this simple but hard question:

What, how much, when and how should I eat?

How are the answers different from your habits?
What do you want to do about the difference?

  1. About the difference…. that one ist only in the own head.
The need to eat and/or drink ist a natural, a physiological one. But WHAT and how often is to be eaten or drink- there is only a pure physical matter, isn`t it? Here is the difference only an idea, the proper conviction and manner, which by repetition becomes behaviour. Anyway, here ist no place for „MUST“ or „SHOULD“, but only for „COULD“. 🙂

    1. I am not sure about that.

I see us humans being somewhat disconected, addicted brainwashed and obsessed when it comes to food and beverages.

To me, asking „when, what and how should I eat“ might be a step to become more connected to the actual meaning of food and beverages.

I do not think, that food and beverages serve only physical needs.
I love to celebrate with lovely food and I love to have a spirt in a festive moment.

Muktananda13, I thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. I am glad you like my posts.

        Well,
your momentary perspective about humans ist not a false one, i think, but is only a momentary one…

  2. Thanks so much for this article and the discussion around it.
Hunger or thirst… or neither / nor? Who of us ever experienced hunger? But what is that longing for something, if it is NOT hunger? It surely feels like hunger, even after having stuffed a chocolate bar, chips, cheese, sausage… the whole fridge.
What are we longing for? Don‘t we have everything (surely we do have enough food)?
I haven‘t got an easy explanation, but it appears to me as if this longing was something „recent“ (with recent I mean within the last 70 years or so, certainly after WW2). And I must say that this phenomenon leaves many questions open for me, in particular whether we have lost our ability to honor and share what we have. One could also say: This phenomenon leaves the question whether we, as a society, are on the right track (more, faster, cheaper food). Does this cheap food fill us?
If we could only see how wonderful life is, how much joy it is to pick a fruit from a tree that you have planted yourself. And, not to forget, how much joy it is to wait for the fruit to ripen.
